Background : The incidence of pancreas and biliary tract cancer is increasing worldwide and is steadily increasing in Korea, especially among elderly patients. Therefore, health education after surgery is very important, and the patient's and caregiver's understanding and satisfaction with the education are important. In particular, effective educational programs are needed to increase understanding for elderly patients and their caregivers.

Methods : In order to increase understanding and satisfaction with the ongoing group education using PPT slide visual materials, health education programs using video media are created and utilized. A satisfaction survey will be conducted to conduct a comparative study between current educational program and video programs. (Use satisfaction survey). This includes patients who underwent pancreas surgery and their primary caregivers who also received health education.

Results : A total of 120 patients who underwent curative intent surgery between 2021 and 2023 were included in the study. The 101 patients received current program and 19 patients received new educational video program. Both groups showed high satisfaction scores, but the group of patients who received the video program showed slightly higher satisfaction scores, and there was a particular difference in satisfaction scores in the group of patients over 65 years of age. (average 8.5 vs 9.1, p = 0.074)

Conclusions : We increase satisfaction with education for both elderly patients and their caregivers through health education using video media rather than current health education materials after pancreatic cancer surgery. Through the continuous use of educational materials in daily life, the quality of life of cancer patients after surgery is improved.
